Freshness Date Codes
The general rule of thumb for culling is "would I give this to Mom?" If the answer is no, it needs to be put on markdown.
Shoppers want the freshest product with the most buds, so they do not tend to purchase the "old stuff". Although orchid flowers can last long, they will begin to look worn, and should not be kept in the store beyond 45 days.
Each UPC or Hang Tag will have a code with one letter and two number. The letter corresponds to the month (ie. A=Jan, L=Dec) and the number is the plant ship date. The tags below shows the plant shipped on Mar 15.
After moving an orchid has been on markdown, and it has not sold after one week, dispose then update your cycle count.
